1. Opposition to the word of God (1-9)
Jeremiah told Jehoiakim, secular and religious leaders that the temple and Jerusalem would be destroyed. They felt God would never destroy it for it was his holy city and his dwelling place. But they were wrong. They were raging inside. Jeremiah was branded as a traitor and declared worthy of death for being God's spokesman.
2. God is with us, especially in trials (10-24)
Court convened. God strengthened Jeremiah inwardly and gave him words to speak. His life was truly in danger. A prophet named Uriah spoke the same message. He was hunted down and killed. Yet God protected Jeremiah's life, for he wanted to work through Jeremiah a while longer.
