1. God's sadness over false prophets (9-24)
God's heart was broken and Jeremiah was appalled, by the spiritual condition of the prophets. The prophets were very popular. They told people what they wanted to hear and not what God wanted to communicate. They prophesied lies. They allowed wickedness in the temple. They refused to stand in the council of the Lord. God pled with the people not to listen to them. They needed to stand under the counsel of God and listen to God's words.
2. God's servants must speak God's word (25-40)
False prophets claimed that their dreams were telling them to get people to forget the name of the Lord. God's words were not like their delusional dreams. God's word was like grain and theirs like straw. His word was like fire and a hammer that crumbles rock. Their words were reckless and led people astray. God's word changes people and crumbles hard hearts. God leads people to himself.
