1. God had firmly decided (1-9)
God would bring about his judgement. It was settled. Nobody, not even Moses, nor Samuel could change his mind. God knew that his people, in their present spiritual condition, were not going to repent. Everyone had corrupted their ways. God had to bring glory to his name. He would punish the nation for their sin. Jeremiah would deliver this message.
2. I will serve you, but why must I suffer? (10-21)
Jeremiah was faithful to God and his mission, yet couldn't understand why he was suffering so much. God recognized his faithfulness, but he was not going to take away his suffering. Instead, he would help Jeremiah stand as his spokesman. He would be with him and make him like a bronze gate. God will strengthen his servants who speak God's word.
