1. Jesus welcomed as King (12-15)
A great crowd had gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. But Jesus became an even bigger attraction than the festivities. The people went out to meet him. They shouted praise and blessing upon Jesus. They hailed Jesus as king of Israel and gave him a king's welcome. But Jesus is not a political king. He rode into Jerusalem riding on a very young donkey to fulfill a Messianic prophecy. His approach symbolized peace. Jesus was not a grand, towering figure. He was almost eye level with the crowds, revealing his humility and approachability. Our King Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords, but he rules us in gentleness and love.
2. Many went to see Jesus (16-19)
At that moment, the disciples were confused. They would only understand after Jesus' resurrection. Meanwhile crowds continued to gather, further frustrating the Pharisees. They sarcastically complained that the whole world had gone after Jesus. But we should pray that the whole world really would receive Jesus as King and follow him!
