1. Jonathan stands up for David (1-10)
Saul persisted in looking for a way to kill David. Jonathan courageously spoke to Saul on David's behalf, standing on the truth. Saul seemed to repent, and David re-entered Saul's service. But soon Saul's evil spirit returned. David realized that he had to leave Saul permanently.
2. God protects David (11-24)
Saul's daughter Michal helped David as much as she could, claiming he was ill and making a decoy to give him time to escape. David wisely went to stay with God's servant, Samuel. But Saul received a report about David's location and sent men to capture him. Then, God protected David in a strange way. Those who came-including Saul himself-were overpowered by the Spirit of God and prophesied.
