1. "For my own sake I do this" (1-11)
Israel has a strong identity as those who call on the name of the LORD. Yet they did not listen and obey him - they were stubborn with necks like iron and bronze foreheads, and their ears have not been open. Yet God knew all this. He bears with them, chooses them, refines and redeems them again and again. Why? For his own glory. He is faithful even when people are not. He promised blessings and curses long ago, and carried them out as he said.
2. Come near me and listen" (12-22)
Again God invites them to listen and learn what he is doing, with Babylon and with them. He will destroy Babylon and redeem them. He teaches what is best and directs us in the way we should go. Those who listen and obey God's words find peace like a river, and well-being like waves of the sea. The wicked, in contrast, have no peace.
