1. I have chosen you (1-20)
God chose Israel to be his people, yet they turned away. He calls them: "Listen" and "Do not be afraid." God's choosing is irrevocable. He will pour out his Spirit on their offspring. Who is the LORD, who chose them, who blesses, disciplines, and rescues his people with a mighty hand? He is not like idols, who do nothing. Men craft idols by their own labor, using their own resources. How foolish to cook your own meal with part of the wood, and then thank an idol fashioned from the other half for providing it!
2. "Return to me" (21-28)
Jacob had been like the foolish idolater. Yet God did not forget them. He forgave them, sweeping away their sins and opening a way to return to him who redeemed them. The direction is clear: accept this forgiveness and return to the Lord, leaving behind all the idols. To the redeemed, God promises clear blessing: Jerusalem and the temple will be rebuilt by Cyrus.
