1. The true light Jesus (6-13)
John was great mainly because he testified to Jesus, the true light that shines to everyone like the sun. There were three responses toward Jesus: (1) the world did not recognize him, though he was their creator; (2) Israel, his people, did not receive him though they knew him; (3) there were people who received and believed in him. God gave them the right (power) to be the children of God, more than a dead battery is jumpstarted and regains power to operate a lamp or a car again. This power comes neither from us nor our parents nor any human being but from the Father God, the life giver.
2. He made known God (14-18)
The Word, the Creator God humbled himself and incarnated into a tiny baby in a manger and dwelt among us. He is Jesus. Jesus is full of God's glory and grace. Moses' law reveals all are sinners who are condemned to death. But Jesus is full of grace that saves condemned sinners while he is full of truth too. Jesus has made known God in his full capacity.
