1. Be patient and stand firm (7-12)
Jesus does not promise us ease and comfort. We believers in Jesus also struggle and suffer in all kinds of trials. When we suffer we are tempted to grumble against others. We may say things we ought not to say or we compromise. At such times, we must ask God for patience. He is full of compassion. Jesus will come soon and reward all who persevere.
2. Pray (13-20)
The time of sickness is the time to pray. Prayer is powerful and effective as seen in the prophet Elijah (1 Ki 17-18). We also suffer from spiritual sickness. We must confess our sins to one another and pray for each other. When our brother or sister wanders from the truth, we can pray for them and find a way to restore them. Thus we can save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
