KEEP THE ROYAL LAW

Date : Dec 19, 2017
Passage : James 2:1~13
Keyverse : 8

1. Believers must not show favoritism (1-7)

Our Lord Jesus welcomed all kinds of sinners regardless of social background. Likewise, Christians must not discriminate based on clothes or outward appearance. In fact, God has chosen the poor who love him to be rich in faith and to inherit God's kingdom. Meanwhile, the unbelieving rich sometimes mistreat Christians and blaspheme God. We should not unduly esteem others because of their wealth. May God give us spiritual eyes to see people the way Jesus did.

2. Love your neighbor as yourself (8-13)

King Jesus gave us the royal law, the second greatest commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself." When we obey this law, there is no room for favoritism. Favoritism violates this law because we discriminate based on human factors instead of treating others with love. Breaking one commandment is like breaking them all because God's standard is perfection. Therefore, when we speak and act, let us be merciful toward others.

Application: Lord Jesus, I am a lawbreaker but thank you for your mercy and forgiveness. Help us to practice the royal law with everyone we meet today.
One Word: Love your neighbor as yourself
