1. Their hearts are far from me (1-16)
Woes were pronounced on Jerusalem, the city of David. God would humble them through the Assyria. Miraculously God would spare Jerusalem (5-8). This should have revealed the holiness of God to them, but instead they were blind and sightless, and could not read. It was because they only honored him with their lips; their hearts were far from him. They live as if he does not see, did not make them, and knows nothing.
2. They will keep my name holy (17-24)
Yet God has a day where the deaf will hear, the blind will see, and the humble will rejoice in him. The wicked will be dealt with. In that day they will keep His name holy and acknowledge his holiness. This is fulfilled in our days, as God has opened our eyes to understand his words and rejoice in his holiness.
