THE LORD CALLS YOU TO REPENTANCE

Date : Dec 04, 2017
Passage : Isaiah 22:1~25
Keyverse : 12

1. The LORD Almighty has a day (1-14)

The people of Jerusalem were in tumult and commotion, seeing the invading army from their roofs. Isaiah wept seeing the devastation. The Lord had brought about this day. They looked to weapons (8), and rebuilding city defenses (9-11a; 2Chr 32:5), and the water supply (2Ki 20:20), but they did not put their trust in the One who made it or regard the One who planned it! God's purpose in this day was to draw them to repent: weeping and wailing. Instead some said: "let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die!" The Lord told Isaiah such sin would not be atoned for.

2. Shebna and Eliakim (15-25)

These two heard Assyria's terms (36:3). In the time of God's judgment Shebna fatalistically built a grave for his own honor, and so was cursed by God. Eliakim was honored as a father for the people. He would not be able to remove the weight of God's wrath on Judah (25), but God honors those who honor him.

Application: Father, help us see your redemptive purpose in our day and respond by repenting.
One Word: look to the One who made you
