THE CYCLE OF FALLEN MEN

Date : Nov 03, 2017
Passage : Judges 2:11~23
Keyverse : 17

1. The downward spiral of fallen men (11-19)

Judges reveals a vicious cycle: when God's people abandoned God, they did evil and served idols (11-13). So the Lord gave them into enemy hands (14-15). In their distress, they cried out. Then God raised up a judge to save them (16-18). When the judge died, they abandoned God again, refusing to give up evil practices and stubborn ways (19). What is the solution? God's people must always thank and praise God and repent of idolatry.

2. They would not listen (20-23)

Sinners' problem is that they don't listen to godly leaders or the Lord's commands (17,20). God sometimes has to discipline his people with trouble and hardship and failure to test them and see if they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it (22).

Application: Lord, forgive my rebellion, stubbornness and idolatry. Help me to listen to your word and to godly leaders and not follow proud and rebellious ways.
One Word: Don't be stubborn; listen to the Lord
