1. disobedient people (1:27-2:5)
1:27-36 details the Canaanites that Israel did not drive out completely from the land. Some Canaanites became forced laborers, but that didn't stop their influence on Israel. The Lord's angel rebuked them for forgetting God's grace and promise (2:1). Israel was commanded to make no covenant with Canaanites, but rather break down their altars, for their gods would ensnare them (2-3). Israel wept, but they didn't change.
2. A generation that didn't know the Lord (2:6-10)
During Joshua's lifetime, Israel served the Lord, because their leaders had firsthand experience of God (7). But after Joshua and his generation died, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel (10). People in every generation need to know the Lord and what he has done. Do you? Then you must pass it on.
