1. Make every effort for peace and holiness (14-17)
Our sinful nature leads us to quarrel with others to establish our own righteousness. Creating peace in our community requires continual effort; it won't happen automatically, but it's worth it. We must not tolerate any hint of immorality or greed in our hearts.
2. The greatness of the new covenant (18-29)
The nature of the old covenant is illustrated by the imposing, terrifying scene at Mount Sinai. The new covenant is illustrated by a heavenly city, full of rejoicing angels. We can rejoice and take courage in the superiority of the new covenant. We are the recipients of a kingdom that cannot be shaken, so we have every reason to be thankful and worship an awesome God.
