1. Conquering faith (29-34)
Faith is what enabled the Israelites to pass through an impossible obstacle-the Red Sea-while those who did not have faith were drowned. Faith enabled Joshua to attack and conquer a seemingly impenetrable city, and faith saved one woman's life within that city. The heroes of the Old Testament won many humanly impossible victories through faith. This shows that faith is a powerful, conquering force.
2. Suffering faith (35-40)
Not everyone who had faith won earthly victories. Many suffered unspeakably and were even put to death. But the victory they won was just as great, as their courage shows. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but us (1Pe 1:12). They were looking forward to the reward that we can now freely receive in Jesus.
