1. A shoot will come up (1-9)
Isaiah foresaw the coming of the Messiah, Jesus. He comes lowly and gentle as a tender shoot from the root of Jesse. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him: the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might and knowledge. His delight is in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees or hears. He will reign with righteousness, justice and faithfulness. In the kingdom established through his death and resurrection, the wolf will live with the lamb. The infant will play near the cobra's den. They will neither harm nor destroy on all his holy mountains, for as the waters cover the sea the knowledge of God will fill the earth.
2. He remnant will return (10-16)
In that day Jesus will stand as a banner and the people of the nations will rally to him. The Lord will reclaim his remnants from all corners of the world. The Lord will facilitate for the remnants to return safely. He will dry up seas and the rivers. He will provide high ways for the remnants to return to him.
