1. Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz (1-10)
God called Isaiah's second son's name, "quick to the plunder." It was a prophecy that "Assyria will quickly destroy Aram and Israel." It was also God's warning to Ahaz. He relied on Assyria before the threats of Aram (Syria) and Northern Israel. But Assyria would also siege Jerusalem after destroying two kingdoms. Men and super power nations are not trustworthy. They will betray us. But Immanuel God is forever trustworthy. 'Immanuel', 'God with us' is our true security and peace.
2. Fear God (11-22)
Fear of men paralyzes men. But fear of God makes men strong and courageous. God strongly warned Ahaz, "Do not fear what they fear. Fear God only and not men." But out of fear of men Ahaz and his people consulted mediums, spirits and psychiatrists. So God hid his face. They would stumble in the darkness. When everything seems hopeless and dark, we should not fear men but God alone. We should consult God trusting in him and the light will dawn on our soul. He is Immanuel, God with us.
