1. Stand firm in your faith (1-12)
The hearts of Ahaz, king of Judah and his people were shaken as trees by the wind. It was because of the news of sudden attack of the allied enemies of King of Aram and king of Israel. In that panic situation, however, the Lord God said, "Don't be afraid!" "They are nothing but two smoldering stubs of firewood!" The Lord is in control. "It will not happen," God said, 'Ask any sign!" But Ahaz didn't ask because he did not believe in God. He considered the hard reality greater than God. We should have faith in God in all situations. If not, we will not stand at all.
2. Immanuel, the sign of God (13-25)
Ahaz did not deserve it, but God did not withdraw his good will. God was patient. He was merciful. In spite of their unbelief, he promised to give, 'Immanuel', 'God with us.' God kept this promise by sending Jesus born of the virgin. God will also send Assyria to destroy the two kingdoms, Aram and Israel in due time. God is the Sovereign Lord who is Immanuel, even though we don't deserve him at all.
