1. Do not harden your hearts (7-11,16-19)
Psalm 95 is about the people of Moses' day. Although God rescued them from Egypt and provided everything they needed in the wilderness, they hardened their hearts, testing and trying God. God patiently bore with them, but his anger burned. As they persisted in sinful unbelief (19), they were prevented from entering God's rest (11), and perished in the wilderness (17). Their story is a sobering warning to us about the deceitfulness of sin and unbelief.
2. Hold our original conviction firmly (12-15)
How are we to avoid their fate? The author makes us responsible: See to it that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. We are to encourage one another daily to hold firmly to what we share in Christ, our original conviction to the end. Is it "today"? Then let's encourage someone to live by faith in Jesus.
