1. Like a lily among thorns. (1:1-2:2)
This book is a beautiful expression of love, seen as not only that of human love, but also a description of God's love for Israel as well as Christ's love for the church, his bride. God's people rejoice in his love and long for him. No one deserves such love, but when we seek him we learn that he loves us, each one, like a lily among thorns.
2. Let him lead me. (2:3-7)
To be led by the one who loves us is our hope. To sit at the feast in the kingdom of God is eternal joy. We can never express our love rightly unless we place our complete trust in God who leads us. His banner over us is love. He sent Christ to cover all of our sins and lead us to his heavenly banquet. The gospel awakens us to the great love of God when we are led by it.
