1. To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul (1-3)
To lift up my soul to the Lord means that I put my trust in him alone; I become totally vulnerable to God, not to my enemies. My enemy Satan is always prowling around seeking a way to triumph over me, but my Lord will not let me be defeated.
2. Show me your ways, O Lord (4-11)
When I put my hope in God alone he will guide me in his paths of truth. He is my Savior; he forgives the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; he instructs repentant sinners and guides the humble in what is right. God's ways are loving and faithful to those who have a covenant relationship with him.
3. Who is the one who fears you, O Lord? (12-22)
To fear God means to love him and to have an awesome respect for him. God makes known his ways to those who fear him. He confides in those who fear him. Those who fear God prosper. He sets us free from anguish and cleanses us from sin. If we fear God, we need not fear anything or anyone else.
Application: Lord, I put my hope in you; forgive my sins and guide me in your ways of truth.
One Word: Put your hope in God alone
