First, he sustains the humble (1-9). The people of Israel were defeated and scattered because of their sins. But they repented and God forgave them and gathered them to himself. God heals the brokenhearted and binds up the wounds of repentant sinners. God is great. He created the heavens and the earth. He hung each star and knows its name. His power and understanding are limitless; he alone can heal the brokenhearted. He is ready to help all who humbly call on his name. Second, God delights in those who fear him (10-14). God does not delight in the beautiful people who spend their time in health clubs. He delights in those who fear him, in those who put their hope in his unfailing love. He grants peace and blessing to the city that is full of such people. Third, God reveals himself in his word (15-20). God commands and all nature obeys. He is revealed in his works of creation. He revealed himself to Israel through the law and through his mighty acts of salvation and judgment which are written in the Bible.
Application: Lord, heal the brokenhearted by your word.
