1. Come out, my people (1-19)
Babylon represents godless world powers--in John's day, Rome. Babylon will be destroyed, and with her all those people who have persecuted God's people, as well as those who share Babylon's value system and have compromised with the world to live in luxury and material prosperity. God calls his people to come out. If you don't want to share in the world's plagues and destruction, then don't share in her sin. Those who use the system to get rich will weep on the day of Babylon's destruction, for they will lose everything. Those whose treasure is in heaven will gain everything.
2. Rejoice you saints (20-24)
When God judges the godless men and nations that have harassed and persecuted his people, the saints, apostles and prophets will rejoice. There will be no more joyful activity or singing in the godless city, for it will be gone.
Application: Lord, help me not to be fooled by the false promises of the world. Keep my heart as your throne.
One Word: Come out--don't compromise!
