TWO HEROES OF HUMILITY

Date : Oct 26, 2016
Passage : Philippians 2:19~30
Keyverse : 2:20

First, Timothy's example (19-24). Timothy was a wonderful example of a trustworthy and selfless servant who had the mindset of Christ. He had a pastor's heart, demonstrating a genuine concern for the welfare of others. Apparently, Timothy was unique in this regard. Paul says, 'For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.' This is a striking statement that stings our hearts, because it is true of many Christians today. Our busy lives are often too crowded and too conflicted for the interests of Christ. A servant of Christ has to make himself available to the Lord and put the His will first. Second, honor people like him (25-30). Epaphroditus was a great example of a layman who served the body of Christ. Paul refers to him as 'my brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier.' Epaphroditus was sent to deliver support for Paul and to take care of his needs. On the way, he became ill and was close to dying. This didn't shake him, but he grew concerned over the anxiety of the Philippians for his wellbeing and returned sooner than expected. Paul says to honor servants like him, who are willing to risk lives for the work of Christ.
Application: Father, fill our hearts with the humility and compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ and grant us a genuine concern for the welfare of others.
One Word: Seek first the interests of Christ
